Stromboli vs. Calzone: Are They the Same?

They both wrap dough around fillings, so people mix them up constantly. But they’re made in different shapes.

The key difference

A calzone is folded — dough folded over the filling and sealed into a half-moon. A stromboli is rolled — filling layered on the dough, then rolled up like a log and baked. Same ingredients, different technique and shape.

How they eat

Because it’s rolled, a stromboli gives you spirals of filling in each slice. A calzone gives you one big sealed pocket. Neither is better; they’re just different formats for the same idea.
